Honey Lime Barbecue Sauce

This Honey Lime Barbecue Sauce is something that I am quite proud of and have worked hard to get right. It is seriously delicious, sticky, sweet and tangy! You probably have most of the items used to make it in your fridge right now.

Not much is better than having all of your ingredients without having to go shopping.

Hubbs is a bit of a Barbecue Connoisseur and he really hates sauces that are heavy on the vinegar.

Therefore I went to work on creating a sauce that had just the right amount of savory. That was sweet- but not too sweet and still a tangyness to it.

I was determined to get this recipe live by this evening so, for this batch, I had to work with what I had handy.

I was out of limes so I sub’d with my handy little bottle of lime juice.

I noticed ZERO difference. Woot!

I took my sauce for a walk in the park on a lovely day.

If you’re feeling especially snooty you can always omit the ketchup and use tomato sauce and paste. (I’d sub about 3/4 cup sauce to about 1/8 – 1/4 cup paste.)

I prefer using the ketchup because it already has a million spices in it. In this case taking the shortcut really makes a better sauce, imo.

Braised pork shoulder with honey lime barbecue sauce, garlic parmesan mash and fried okra. Honey, stop it.

Also, you can very easily forgo the 20 minutes cooking time and just throw all ingredients in a bowl and whisk.

Sautéing the onion and garlic first and allowing it to cook a bit just gives the sauce more depth.

You can also add more or less lime, sub orange juice instead, cook it, don’t cook it, whatever works.

You do you!

Make it your own and tell me how it turned out in the comments section! I’d love to read any subs or tweaks you guys add.

We’re all in this together!
